Catch Flutie at Natick Arts Center

Long before he won the Heisman Trophy, retired quarterback Doug Flutie used the hand that threw the famous 'Hail Mary" pass to work the keys of a trumpet.

When that junior high phase wore off, he took up drums, at age 22. Brother Darren took up guitar about the same time. They formed a band, and the rest is head-banging rock history.

Though just a classic rock cover group, the Flutie Brothers Band has quite a resume. It has sold out Las Vegas shows, been joined on stage by members of Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and Foreigner, and performed at five Super Bowls.

But band members also regularly perform benefits for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, as they will Saturday at The Center for the Arts in Natick.

All proceeds from this night of rock 'n' roll will support the foundation's efforts to aid disadvantaged families caring for children with autism. The foundation is named for Flutie's son, who has the neurological disorder.

The autism benefit begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the center, 14 Summer St. in Natick. Tickets are $25, or $24 seniors and students. Call 508-647-0097 or visit www.natickarts.org.
