7th annual Celebrity Golf Classic a huge success

Boston, Massachusetts, June 28, 2006— Doug Flutie, former Patriots and Boston College quarterback, got into the swing of Summer at the 7th Annual Doug Flutie, Jr. Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Sun Life Financial.  The tournament, held at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Ma, raised $200,000 for the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, a charity that Flutie and his wife, Laurie established in honor of their son Doug, Jr., who was diagnosed with autism at age three.

"Laurie and I were thrilled to host this great event for the 7th straight year,” noted Doug Flutie.    “We are so grateful to all the sponsors for their generous support, and we all enjoyed a great day of golf.  Most importantly, we are raising money to help those who need assistance in caring for their children with autism."

The Doug Flutie Jr. Celebrity Golf Classic kicked off with a pre-tournament party on Monday night, June 26 when over 400 people, including Patriots players and local celebrities, packed the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Boston.   The evening featured a performance by The Flutie Brothers Band (featuring Doug Flutie on drums), cocktail reception with open bar, buffet dinner and a live and silent auction, featuring get-away packages, authentic autographed sports memorabilia and other one-of-a-kind items.

Sun Life Financial once again served as the presenting sponsor of the Doug Flutie, Jr. Celebrity Golf Classic.  In six years, this event has raised nearly 1 million dollars for autism services and research.

Sports Illustrated and Cadillac were also proud to be sponsors of the event.
